36 years of living in the shadows, but dreaming of my light.
6 weeks in and I was burnt out.
I know how to start, launch and run a business…don’t I?
On paper, and in practical terms…Yes. (It was so easy running everyone else’s!)
However… A bit like breast feeding a baby, people omit that you can top them up with formula to help with the hunger and sleeping. Seriously why don’t people tell you the ‘real’ deal bizzo!!
6 weeks in and I was SLAMMED with this self belief berating voice. This relentless naysayer in my head who was haunting me. Honestly. I burnt the candle, farted with the sparrows and still I shovelled shit uphill. What was I doing wrong…How could I have put my family in this position. I left my secure job to follow my dreams…How dare I!
The No BS Guide To Surviving The First Year:
- Fact #1: Cover yourself in bubble wrap, camo gear and brace for the onslaught of self doubt, low self esteem and the big cannon…FEAR!
- Fact #2: Invest in at least 10 of these outfits because this is the new normal. Dealing, be aware of and wrestling with these morons aka programming/default will be a common occurrence
- Fact #3: You will learn more about yourself going into business than any other workshop, course or personal development. It really is like doing PD!
- Fact #4: Networking will create a whole new meaning. It won’t create eye rolling, infact it will turn you into one of those women who shriek, giggle, hug and finally understand what is meant by the whole ‘tribe n vibe’ thing! Without these girls on your side…You my friend are toast. Everyone else is going through exactly what you are. The trick is to find the ones who are honest about their journey. Love my girls!
- Fact #5: Your eyeballs will literally fall out of your head. So get the cellotape ready. The long nights followed by the early morning get ups to the kids will be worth it…Honest!
- Fact #6: Add expert gardener to your long list of know hows. Your first year in biz is spent sowing so many seeds, daily watering, frequent fertilizing and constant weeding… BUT girlfriend when you see the tips of the sweet, sweet green leaves peaking out of the soil…The peas starting to plump out in their pods, the roses unfurling from their buds and the birds, the bees (not that kind!) and the insects which have come alive…Well you will sit back in the sun & beat your chest in triumph and yell from the vines (ok maybe not!) that you did this. You created this.
6 weeks in & you stay in. Stayed in the game. Put your hand up and asked for help.
